My first filling

About 2 weeks ago Nicole went in for her semi annual dentist appointment and they found 2 cavities. Aside from the cavities it was a big dental appointment as she got her first cleaning and her first x-rays. It was also the first dentist appointment that I wasn't with her, so it was sad for me. Anyway, so she has 2 cavities. A back molar on each side on the bottom have a cavity. I guess the teeth are genetic twins or something. Well, with 2 cavities that means that Nicole needs 2 fillings. Fillings mean sedation and sedation means a nice fee that is not covered by insurance.
Nicole was fantastic throughout the entire thing. We started with the sedation waited an hour and then went in for the drilling. Honestly I'm wondering why adult dentists don't have a set up like a pediatric dentist does. The sunglasses for the bright light and the headphones so that she can hear the movie on the TV on the ceiling. Yup, that's right, the TV is on the ceiling. No silly comics or pictures for the kids, just Barnyard playing for her enjoyment.

When the drilling first started I could see Nicole move her hand like she was looking for mine so I went and held her little hand. It wasn't until the last few minutes that Nicole started squirming at all.

I wish that everything could have been done at the same time, but with the cavities on each side of the mouth dentists do not numb both sides. So in the end the sedation worked! She went right to sleep once I got her in the car. After the sedation wore off she was all energy, so it's a good thing we made it to Grandma and Grandpa's! What a great start to Easter weekend.

  1. Did she ask if it was real life?

Poor baby. Hope she doesn't have to go through that again after the next filling!
