Our New Pet

I wish I were able to add the photos of our new pet, but since we no longer have internet access at home and I don't have memory card access at work, it will have to wait for just a bit. In fact, I'll do a special post about all of our fabulous animals.

So the new pet... I'm not sure what the name is because I've heard Franky, and Rocky, so I'll have to talk to Scott about what we're naming him. Either way, our new pet, the racoon, is getting pretty brave around us.

On Sunday I was returning from a church meeting about 8pm and as I'm walking to the door I notice something following me. I think it is Tinny, our outside kitty, but alas I find it to big Rocky Racoon. It was actually kind of eerie, having a racoon follow me and all, but he did stay about 6 feet away from me.

Turns our little racoon has discovered that we put food out everyday! Too bad the food is kitty food for Tinny. So on Sunday Scott had to stand outside and monitor the racoon to make sure he didn't attack Tinny and eat all the food. We are now putting the food in the garage for Tinny, until Rocky Racoon figures that out and starts to invade the garage.

Poor Tinny gets tag teamed. Rocky Racoon on one side and the coyotes on the other. I'm kinda amazed she's still alive actually. I guess hiding works.

Anyway, Rocky Racoon, or Franky, or whatever we decide to call him, is about the size of a small dog. About a medium size for a racoon according to Scott. When I get the pics up you will see how Rocky has very dark, defined colors. He's very pretty, for a racoon and all. This is why we are fairly certain it is a boy.

Personally I find it ironic that just after we finish reading a book centered on killing 'coons we get our own racoon hanging about. I'm sure we're going to want to kill the racoon in a little while here as he gets more brave and more aggressive. Until then, we have added a racoon to our wild aray of animals that have taken residence around our house.

  1. he sounds pretty cute actually, but racoons can be obnoxious and dangerous, esp. to other pets, so good luck with it all.
