Nicole's First Ice Skating!

So at the Joan Kroc Salvation Army Rec Center they have everything. Swimming, Gymnastics, Basketball, and Ice skating, among just about everything else. A few months ago I saw that one of their classes is a mommy and me ice skating class, and with the class you get unlimited ice skating! I was so excited for this, especially since it would just be on my night with Nicole.

Today was the first time Nicole and I went ice skating. Now, I'm only very basic at skating, having only done it a handful of times myself. I can stay up if there isn't much cause to lose balance. Nicole had never ice skated before. She was so excited though, and really, so was I.

Here we are just after we got on the ice. I think it took us about 30 min to go one round one time. Well, maybe 15, but still, it was nice to get all the way around. Nicole held my hands for the most part, but she ventured to the wall. Okay, so I kinda forced her to use the wall a bit.

Here is Nicole pretending to fall. She thought it was so fun to do this. I think it was a good start.

See!! Nicole was doing very well with the wall method of skating. Every now and then I had her go about 3 feet from the wall to me. She did pretty good I think.

The real tragedy occured when Nicole was being silly with her feet and holding onto me. I lost my balance and we fell. It was sad. Yeah, I'm not a strong enough skater to be keeping anybody up. Nicole was so sad she didn't want me to take a picture of her at all, but I snuck in the one above. Right after I took it she protested a bit. Finally after we got home I convinced Nicole to let me take a picture of her owie.

After going to get some ice cream to feel better and getting home, Nicole was finally okay with her battle wounds. She landed pretty darn good on her right arm. As you can see she has a big red mark on her elbow and her wrist. I'm sure they will bruse up nicely. Nicole never complained about the wrist, but the elbow she kept saying hurt a lot. She hasn't mentioned anything in a while though.

So our class starts on Wed after Nicole's ballet. It will certainly be interesting to see how she responds when we show up at the rink again. She was pretty adament after today's accident that she did not want to go back. At least on Wed there will not only be other kids, but someone who actually knows how to skate!!
