Rapunzel!!

When I asked Nicole what she wanted to be for Halloween I didn't know what to expect. I did know that I wanted to make her costume this year. Don't ask me why, I don't know. I just did.
When she said Rapunzel I was a little excited and a little worried that I wouldn't be able to find a pattern for it at all. Boy was I wrong. Rapunzal must be the hit costume this year! There were patterns everywhere!

I didn't actually get a Rapunzel pattern. It was a princess dress that I altered a tad to make work. I also wanted the dress to be sturdy enough for Nicole to use it for play. So I made the dress big. I didn't realize HOW big I made it until it was all done.

So, as you can see the dress is just a little big. Besides the regular hemming that needs to be done, I also need to get the sides taken in a bit. Hey, I made a dress! I have done quilting before, but this was the first time I did every step of making a dress.

To say I did it by myself would be such a laughable lie, that I wont ever try. As my parents can attest, I called Mom for every step. Literally, every single step. Come on Dad, you know you loved hearing for Nicole and me 4 times in one day.

Well, I can safely say that Nicole does not care one bit that the dress is big. After taking these pictures she insisted on wearing it for a bit. She even recited a lot of Rapunzel's diaglog and actions. All in all, I think I did a very good job on the dress.

I'm so glad that I have the ability and resources to make Nicole's Halloween costume, but really, it would have been cheaper to just buy one. Oh well, Nicole will always have this dress to keep as one that her mom made for her. I know that I still have dresses my mom has made for me, and I can't wait to give them to Nicole to wear and play in as well. Thanks for the help Mom. I really could not have done it without you.

  1. Some of the fondest memories I have are the dresses and other things my mom made for me. You just don't forget stuff like that. And BRAVO! I'm so proud of you! Sleeves are not easy things... especially if you've never done them before. AMAZING Karen!
