So my mom is starting to worry about Nicole's safety, what with a chipped tooth and now a red ant bite. Nicole and I were getting some items from the garage (about 20 feet from the house) and as I'm coming I hear Nicole start to yell "Owe! Shoes hurt! Shoes hurt!" I knew immediatly that she had been attacked by those red ants. Now being 2 Nicole doesn't quite understand the concept of moving away from the creature that is biting her, so of course she is standing in the middle of these red ants crying. (wouldn't be the first time she stood crying in a pile of ants, they just weren't red ants before)
Anyway, I picked her up and immediately tore off her shoes and searched for the offending bug. Low and behold I found that darn red ant right inbetween her two tiny toes. Of course it had to be between her toes. Well, Nicole was not impressed by my finding the ant and continued to insist that I make the pain stop, right now. I get her inside, call my mom and see what remedies there are. Meanwhile Nicole is just bawling. Poor little girl.
Again, Nicole was not impressed by the "rememdies" that I was trying. She felt the ice was ridiculous, that stupid baking soda paste was just making me touch the painful area, and that fudgesicle was just a waste of space. She wanted to be hugged and snuggled and comforted. I got her a little calm by promising to go see Gramma.
The next 3 hours were full of a little girl whose "toes hurt" and didn't want to eat anything but m&m's and hold candy corn. After a good 2 or 3 hours she finally calmed down from the ant bite and became her super cute playful self.
My recommendation is to not let your 2 year old get bitten by a fire ant. I guarantee they wont like it.

Poor Nicole, it hurts just hearing about it! I'm glad we don't have fire ants here.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Poor Nicole. I have to laugh though, it reminds me of when Lindsay stood on an ant hill crying because she couldn't cross the ditch and the ants were everywhere, even crawling in her wide open mouth!
